The Beginner's Guide to Target Finds!

Hello & happy Wednesday everyone! I am so very excited to share this short & sweet little guide of my tried and true Target tips that I put together just for you!

This guide might say it's for beginner's, but in the Target world don't we all feel like we're really just beginning? *major heart eyes here*

After many years as a Target shopper, I still feel that first day euphoric rush every single time I walk through those automatic doors. I am never not excited to go to Target, it's always an exciting event to me; this, truly, is what makes me feel like I'm still just a 'beginner.'

Now, this isn't to say I haven't learned a thing or two over the years either. After perusing the shelves and rummaging through the racks almost weekly (let alone monthly) for well over five years now, I have picked up some little tricks of helpful advice, and I am here to share it!

So, without further ado, here are my top 5 Target tips!

1. Download the Target App

Formerly known as the cartwheel app (Target recently merged this into the app of their namesake.) This app is full of so many deals & I could never imagine shopping at Target without it!

It's a totally free app & absolutely worth a small chunk of the memory space on your phone. While it allows you to browse everything on the website & check in-store availability, you can also create lists and even order the items on your curated lists!

What's even better about the Target app? COUPONS

That's right, Target COUPONS!

If you never knew about this, then please know that I am happy to welcome you into this totally new world of Target shopping! Each day/week, you can browse by category for your favorite items & see if Target has any deals. You can also scan any item in store, and the app will immediately add a coupon to your barcode (which is scanned at checkout) if there is a corresponding deal in the app! How great is that?

Download the app today & be a Target superstar saver always!

2. Clothing Brands

What I have discovered through my many conversations with people about Target, (because yes, I do integrate Target into my everyday conversation haha!) is that many have no idea about the various clothing brands that Target carries!

This small yet important detail is truly one of my favorite things about Target. They have seamlessly integrated smaller brands into their larger Target brand that are geared toward different audiences.

Here is a small breakdown of the current women's clothing brands carried by Target

**(I'm focusing on the women's clothing brands because I know them best & it would take much too long to cover all of the brands - BUT I would be more than happy to write a separate post covering the Target brands if there is enough interest! Let me know in the comments below!) **

  • Wild Fable

  • This brand is gearing up for the fall season with looks inspired from the 70s, 80s & 90s! Here are two outfits I tried on from this super cool collection! (I'm sure you can tell which decade inspired each of these outfits.)

  • Xhiliration

  • This brand, alongside Mossimo, is one of the tried & true Target brands. They carry everything from cute cardigans to leggings & loungewear.

  • Mossimo

  • Mossimo, like its counterpart Xhiliration, is a staple in the Target brand. With various looks to try for every season, you can never go wrong with this brand!

  • Universal Thread

  • I have been having some major love for this brand. If you have a love for simple prints, chambray & cotton, than this is definitely a brand you want to try. They have my favorite basic t-shirt & it's only $8!! You can't beat that price for the quality!

  • Ava & Viv

  • This is by far one of the most affordable & absolutely adorable plus size clothing lines I have seen! I personally own an Ava & Viv winter coat (an all black knee length puffy parka that I've put through the ringer.) I bought it about two years ago and wear it every day during the New England winter months (which can be very brutal) and it is still in such great shape! Such a quality brand!

  • A New Day

  • This new line at Target is all about clean design, fun & flowy styles & scattered pops of color! With clothing that's perfect for some weekend fun or time at the office, you can't go wrong here!

  • Knox Rose

  • As soon as I laid my eyes on this line, my boho heart went all aflutter. I love to call this brand "the budget babes Free People." With amazing flowy tops & draped dresses, this clothing line is for anyone in love with all things boho & fun!

  • Who What Wear

  • Are you into powerful pantsuits, clean lines & right off the runway fashion? Well, if you answered yes to any of the above, Who What Wear is the fashion line for you. With a mostly black color palette (because who isn't into black clothes nowadays?) and some pops of color here and there, this line is all about being a total boss babe. I love this line, and love how confident I feel in all of the great clothes they create. Definitely a must try!

  • Isabel Maternity by Ingrid & Isabel

  • Target really does cater to everyone and the quality never suffers. I've known my fair share of expecting momma's and the complaint can often be that they need to sacrifice style for comfort, why can't they have both? I totally agree that having both should be an option & so does Target's maternity line! The clothing is flowy and super cute! I've purchased clothing from this line for the expecting mother's in my life and they have always loved it!

3. Clearance

Need I say more for this one? hahaha

Always check the clearance! Target already has amazing deals, but the clearance is even better!

Most people view the clearance as leftover items that were never purchased because they weren't "good enough" or "cool enough" but that could not be further from the truth.

I had purchased the cutest summer dress right off of the front rack for the full $25 price, only to go back a week later and see that same beautiful dress marked down for $13!

You could argue that maybe my taste in dresses is poor, but I would have to counter that argument by saying that particular dress was entirely sold out soo.....

Long story short: Always check the clearance, you won't regret it!

4. Books

If you are a bibliophile like myself (aka lover of all things books) than the Target book aisle is somewhat of a hidden gem for you.

While I am a firm lover & supporter of Barnes & Noble, the prices can be a bit steep and Target has such great deals on books!

They have so many books (even the new releases) that are marked down to 20% of the actual market price - and this is a deal that just can't be beat!

5. Target App (Part 2)

Now, I know that I mentioned the Target app in number one, but I needed to highlight this aspect entirely on it's own.

I discovered this very recently and it was truly a game changer.

In the Target app, I mentioned that you can scan items. When you scan the item it will not only pull up coupons pertinent to the item but it will also tell you the price for that item.

One day, I was shopping through Target and I came across the most stunning Magnolia sketchbook and I just HAD to have it. It was marked at $13.99 (way to high for me) but I noticed that many other items around it were marked at a clearance price. SO...I decided to scan the item in the app, just in case maybe they forgot to mark this one.

As I prepared myself for disappointment, I pulled out my phone and scanned the barcode.

Waiting....waiting.....waiting.....& done

WHAT! The sketchbook shows up at $6 online!!! I was so happy I grabbed that book and went straight to the register!

Target will match their online prices in-store as long as you present them with the physical proof (i.e the app.)

You might just call it dumb luck but this is not the only time I have found a great deal, and now I scan every item I plan on purchasing just in case the online price is cheaper.

Example 2 (just to reassure you:) I recently found two items from the young girls clothing section that I desperately wanted to purchase for my little cousin's birthday. They were both from the newly released fall collection and I knew that it had to be a pretty penny for the full outfit.

The outfit in question: A stunning pale blue jumpsuit with lace detail on the top & a flowy floral long beige cardigan. Each piece was $20.

After scanning the jumpsuit came in at $16 and the cardigan at $8 online!

If I hadn't convinced you before, I hope I've convinced you now: Download the Target app for mega savings!

I hope this fun little (turned lengthy) Target guide has helped you expand your Target skill set and strengthened your inner budget babe! If you have any questions or tips you would like to add, feel free to drop them in the comments below!
